Directions: Read carefully steps for accessing online resources and successful research.
DAY 1 Goal
1. Determine whether you are using Yummy Math resources OR Dan Meyer resources.
A. Visit Yummy Math and select your own problem to solve (select 4th or 5th grade skills-top drop down menu)
B. Visit Day Meyers‘ spreadsheet and select your own problem to solve (select 5th, 6th, 7th grade skills– level is written by standard in middle column).
2. Research a math problem that interests you and your partner.
- You have 1 day to research and 2 days to prepare information.
- View at least three options before deciding on one topic.
- You must select one topic.
- Once your decision is made, I will assist you in solving, but additional resources can be found online.
- Please record the direct link to your research topic.
DAY 2 Goal
1.Write about your topic and explain the math problem(1 document for 2 partners).
Use the following link to create your own formal written explanation.
- Make a Copy of the document and type. (File—Make a Copy)
- Rename the document [Partner first name 1 Partner first name 2/ PBL]
- Criteria for Success for writing: 2 complete sentences for each key information area.
- When you are finished writing, you may include pictures/resources you want printed on this document that are related to your topic.
- Document length must be under 3 pages.
2. Google for more research*********If you need to do more research through google to extend your thinking related to your topic, ask for permission. Googling without permission is not permitted.
DAY 3 Goal
1. Revise your writing and format.
- Have one group look over your work. Checking for 2 complete sentences, creativity in explanations, and explanation with context of the problem given.
2. SHARE the final document to your math teacher, when you are ready for it to be printed.

3. Practice and prepare presentation with your partner.
- Who will say what?
- What else do you want to include when explaining?
- What is important to consider during your presentation?

DAY 4 Goal
- Quick Practice
- Select another group to share with
- Present
- Answer 2-3 questions about the topic
- Give Feedback-one glow and one grow related to the presentation (volume, answer the questions, show creativity and completion, worked well as a team)
